United Airlines - Not Flying With Me - I don't quite prefer to repeat myself sounding like a broken record, but for the umpteenth time, it is always the intention which lays the foundation and which ultimately creates a mirror image with respect to the outcome of the original action. Today let me draw a parallel to United Airlines which just made it into the news once more as a result of their ill intentions behind their actions. Sheer greed and profit oriented thinking is apparently all that there is on the minds of those top executives in charge of that multibillion domestic company. Don't worry, I am not going to discuss those latest despicable incidents where perfectly valid passengers ended up being dragged away from their prepaid and preassigned seats just because some randomly appearing air marshals wished to be accommodated better. It is not my intention either to refer to that happening when a male flight attendant ultimately lost his temper - most likely due to relentless and constant stress, overtime and underpay. No, rather the opposite I shall be diving into. About two months ago, I atypically booked a rather costly airfare to Europe with United Airlines (UA), and as always I added a cancellation plus a luggage insurance, just to be safe for the case of cases. As a matter of fact, that very hypothetical scenario suddenly occurred and forced me to call my trip off after coming down with the flu. Not a big deal, right? After all, had I not taken out an insurance to cover for exactly that kind of inconvenience? At least, that was my firm belief until told otherwise. Once on the chat line with a representative, United Airlines almost instantly distanced themselves from that said insurance agency pointing out that they operated entirely separately and thus independently from them. Never mind, that issue would be tackled by the time I got to cross that bridge, I decided. For now, though swift action was required primarily for time- sensitive reasons as it was only 26 hours before take- off. I was given no wiggle room whatsoever as far as the itinerary itself was concerned and could therefore only postpone it to a different date. You see, because cancellation is principally not an option for overseas flights within United Airlines policy, I had opted to insure myself for specifically such. Well, UA boldly fined me with a $150 per way which made it a total of $300 for the round trip. Not quite yet enough; since I had to transfer my flight date to May/ June - the beginning of peak season, my credit card was now charged with an additional $500. It would even get better than that. Alright, after having idly moved dates around for hours, I was asked to acknowledge the incoming email, which I actually did right away. However, beneath that button was just another and strangely not all that conspicuous grey field which evidently needed clicking as well. Well, after about fifteen minutes, I came to realize that UA had meanwhile taken the liberty to just add on extra handling fees which turned out to be nothing but another hidden fine for late confirmation. Excuse me, say what?! After a whopping surcharge of $1040 I was finally all set. What a nasty rip- off! United Airlines' intention was unmistakably to take advantage of my unfortunate situation, deceive me and screw me out of just another grand making this overseas trip the most expensive one ever. The last time I paid that much for two tickets! This shameless scam needs to be brought to the national media's attention, so everyone learns how purposely fraudulently those greedy jack- asses run their company. To top it all off, to this very day, that dubious insurance company has not returned any of our phone calls. How the heck am I supposed to deal with them if they don't even have the decency to get in touch with me? This looks just like another good reason to turn the entire matter over to the Attorney General, several social media platforms and maybe even major TV- stations.
