Rom Wurde Nicht An Einem Tag Erbaut (II)  - Letztes Wochenende konnte ich es wieder einmal nicht fassen, dass ich nicht mehr in meine alten Bühnenklamotten passte und wurde folglich zum ungezählten Male bitterböse über mich selbst. Spaß beiseite, ich war in der Vergangenheit tatsächlich viel schlanker, und so könnte man sich schon fragen, was es denn nun damit auf sich hätte. Diese Frage aber ist im Prinzip ziemlich sinnlos, denn die Zeit per se legt hinsichtlich meiner Transformation ohnehin ausreichend Zeugnis ab. Thank God, my husband is clever enough to meet the same old tricky question, "Do I look fat?" elegantly by keeping it just like Abraham Lincoln in that commercial who completely non-verbally indicates, 'just that much'. Seriously, I used to be much skinnier in the past, so what the heck happened one may wonder? In fact, this question is rather useless as time clearly bears witness to my transformation. "Nothing from nothing", I can hear my Dad's words as clear as a bell. Sure, I looked much better back then, but I certainly did not put on all that extra weight overnight. Rom Wurde Nicht An Einem Tag Erbaut (I)   - Willkommen zurück zu meinem Blog! - Mancher Tage mag ich schon gar nicht mehr die lokalen, geschweige denn die globalen Nachrichten im Fernsehen verfolgen angesichts der vielen Negativität, die unser Leben infiltriert. Aber, und genau das ist eine große, wenn nicht sogar die größte Tücke überhaupt, durchs Wegsehen, beziehungsweise durch jegliches anderweitiges Verleugnen der Wahrheit, werden diese Energien nicht einfach so verschwinden. Immer mehr Menschen bringen ungeschminkt ihre Verachtung zum Ausdruck angesichts dessen, was sich so alles rund um sie abspielt, und so bekunden sie oftmals auch ihren Unwillen, ihr Augenmerk fortan darauf gerichtet zu lassen. Nichts ist leichter, als seinen Kopf in den Sand zu stecken und sich in einen völlig passiven Jasager zu verwandeln, bloß um letztlich der Kontaktaufnahme wie -erhaltung mit der Realität auszuweichen. However, and this is in fact a great if not the greatest downfall at all, by looking away or trying to block out reality any other way, those energies will not just disappear like that. Lately it seems, more and more folks are expressing their utter disdain and therefore their growing reluctance as far as keeping an eye on how (far) various scenarios are developing. Nothing easier than burying one's head in the sand and just turning into passive yes- men mainly for the sake of avoiding getting and staying in touch with reality. I think, it is our duty as civilians and citizens to keep ourselves updated as to what's going on in general and not just in our proximity. Believe me, what matters on a grand scale, globally this is, matters just as much on a micro level. T

Heim, Trautes Heim   - Guten Morgen! - Interessanter Weise las ich kürzlich in einer österreichischen Zeitung über einen amerikanischen Arzt, der nach der Tragödie in Sandy Hook eine kugelsichere Schutzdecke entwickelte, welche sich Kinder in imminenten Gefahrensituationen auf den Rücken schnallen können. Angeblich bietet sie auch Schutz in Fällen von Tornado- Verwüstungen. Ganz toll, dachte ich zuerst, wurde aber dann doch skeptisch. Würde diese bemerkenswerte aber überteure Erfindung nicht doch bloß ein weiteres Abwehrmittel darstellen, als vielmehr eine endgültige und wirklich Sinn machende Lösung zum eigentlichen Problem anbieten? Nun, seit Monaten schon sind die Nachrichten hierzulande gespickt mit Berichten über Gewaltvorkommnisse dieser Art an Schulen und College Kampussen. Alleine heuer haben sich etwa bereits 10 solcher Ereignisse zugetragen! Home, Sweet Home   - Good morning! - Quite interestingly, I just read in an Austrian newspaper that after the tragedy in Sandy Hook a physician came up with a bullet- proof protective blanket which kids can strap on their backs whenever exposed to imminent danger. Supposedly it also provides protection in Tornado scenarios. Great, I thought at first but then became skeptical. Wouldn't such a remarkable and rather costly invention just be another means of deterrent rather than an ultimately sense- making solution to the problem itself? Just in the past several months the news have been filling up with violent incidents in schools and on college campuses in this country. There must have been around 10 such occurrences alone this year! Unfortunately not solely on educational grounds is this kind of armed violence becoming ever the more a major threat and a high- stake gamble considering that on average we all spend quite a few years of our lives in those buildings. Natürliche Ansicht   - Als wahrer Fan von filmischem Weiberkram, mag ich natürlich auch die Show The Bachelor(ette), die ja gerade jetzt wieder ausgestrahlt wird. So sah ich mir also Montag Abend eine weitere Folge an, als mein Mann, der naturgemäß auf so etwas überhaupt nicht abfährt, wiederholter Weise auf die illusorische Natur dieser Reality Shows verwies. Interessant war diese scheinbare Zufälligkeit allemal, als sich etwa 20 Minuten später einer der cleveren Kandidaten quasi selbst eliminierte, als er tatsächlich genau diesen Umstand ehrlich in Frage stellte! Klar hat mir das ein Schmunzeln abgerungen, besonders als die Bachelorette neuerlich so trefflich unter Beweis stellte, wie viel eigentlich an künstlichem Gehabe notwendig war, um zur Rettung der Show diese Wahrheit rasch zu entkräftigen. Natural View   - As a true fan of chick flicks, I love shows like The Bachelor(ette) which happens to air again. So Monday night as I was watching another episode, my husband, who is not a chick and does not like that kind of TV- entertainment, repeatedly stated how fake the whole nature of such reality shows was. Interestingly, only 20 minutes later or so one of the smart candidates seemingly rather coincidentally eliminated himself from the show by honestly questioning exactly that! Sure enough, this got a chuckle out of me, especially when the bachelorette once more proved only too well how much phoniness was needed to actually turn down this piece of truth and keep the show going. Of course, this is all fake, phony and unnatural! What else? Anyone who acts surprised now must indeed have been living under a rock.
