Nichts Ist Umsonst   - Willkommen zurück zu meinem Blog! - Wie das nun mal so ab und zu passiert, durchfuhr es mich gerade erst wieder, dass es im Leben einfach nichts umsonst gibt außer der Liebe. Sicherlich gestalten sich Hoffnung, Mitleid, Träume, Wünsche, selbst Vergeltung und Hass aus finanzieller Sicht weitgehend kostenfrei, aber all diese Gefühle wie auch Ressentiments sind zumeist an spezielle Konditionen geknüpft und beanspruchen somit entweder Zeit oder Energie oder auch beides. Im Gegenzug dazu ist die wahre Liebe in ihrer reinsten und selbstlosesten Form nicht nur kostenlos sondern erfordert überhaupt nichts an Aufwand. Heute aber möchte ich mich doch eher gezielt auf ein paar unterschiedliche Beispiele konzentrieren, die zeigen sollen, dass tatsächlich alles seinen Preis hat oder auch, dass nichts im Leben jemals gratis ist. Also, was die vielen Schnäppchen in der riesengroßen und ewig verlockenden Welt des Verkaufs angeht, so komme ich wohl nicht um das Geständnis herum,

Nothing Is For Free   - Welcome back to my blog! - It just hit me again like a rock as it does every now and then: Nothing in life is for free except for love. Sure, hope, compassion, dreams, wishes, even vengeance and hatred are usually free of charge in monetary terms, but all those sentiments as well as resentments are usually connected to specific conditions and therefore either consume time or energy or both. True love in its purest and most unselfish form, however, is not just cost-free but does not require any effort whatsoever. This being said, as for today, I'd rather focus on a few separate examples of what comes with a certain price and thus classifies for "nothing is ever for free". As far as bargains in the vast and ever tempting world of retail, I just can't help admitting that I, too, love discounts, price reductions and special offers. The more, the better actually. Doppelmoral   - Auf dem Weg zurück von einem eben erst zu Ende gegangenen Besuch in meiner Heimat, überflog ich eine lokale Nachrichtenzeitung und stieß dabei auf einen Artikel mit der Schlagzeile,  "Die Süchtigen und Lasterhaften Sind Für den [Österreichischen] Staat ein Gutes Geschäft". Darunter stand weiters, dass die Tabak- und Alkoholsteuereinnahmen mit 1,5 Milliarden Euro höher ausfallen als die sozialen Folgekosten. Unter letzterem versteht man allgemein Ausgaben für medizinische Behandlung, soziale Unterstützung, Strafverfolgung und Produktivitätsverlust. Diese Kurzinformation zusammen mit  einem etwas gründlicheren Blick auf die eingebettete Statistik ließ mich fast aus allen Wolken fallen. Nicht etwa, dass diese Thematik eine neue wäre, dennoch sprechen die Zahlen eindeutig Bände. Double Standards  - On the way back from a recent visit in my home country, I was skimming through a local paper and stumbled across an article with the headline, "The Addicts and Dissolute Are Lucrative Business For The State [of Austria]". Beneath it read that the yearly profit raised from tobacco and alcohol taxes are 1.5 Billion Euro higher than the consequential costs needed for medical procedures, therapy, social support, criminal prosecution, and loss of productivity. This short statement plus a closer look at the embedded graphics left me flabbergasted. The whole situation is by no means new, but the numbers definitely speak volumes. Okay, so I first glanced at the column alcohol which showed the bar of income generated by sales, taxes and other charges. Das Spiel Der Schuldzuweisung   - Hallo allerseits! - Nun sind bereits mehr als zwei Wochen vergangen, seit sich sich die amerikanische Regierung quasi in den Abschalte- Modus begab. Eigenartig, einen Schritt wie diesen würde man doch wohl kaum von einem so hoch entwickelten Land wie Amerika vermuten, das vorzugsweise als Supermacht adressiert wird. So etwas würde ich mir doch eher von einer Bananenrepublik oder einem plötzlich fehlgesteuerten kommunistischen Regime erwarten. Selbstverständlich werde ich diesbezüglich aufgrund der Art der im Fernsehen porträtierten medialen Informationen wie eben jeder andere auch mehr oder weniger gut am Laufenden gehalten. Und ja, ich bin eigentlich recht zuversichtlich, dass sich das gesamte Dilemma im Grunde noch viel tiefgreifender gestaltet, als dies öffentlich zur Schau getragen wird. Blame Game   - Hi everyone! - It's been over two weeks now that the US government went into shutdown mode. Funny, you would never have guessed a step like that from a highly advanced nation like America which prefers to be addressed as a super power. A lock- down like this one I'd rather expect from a banana republic or some communist regime suddenly gone awry. Of course, I am just as well or badly updated about the whole situation as everybody else due to the nature of press and media related information released on TV. And yes, I am rather sure that there is actually much more to the entire dilemma than publicly portrayed. As I understand, part of the Republican party had decided to basically take a chance and simply veto the Democrats' idea of Obama Care which as we all know had been sanctioned off almost a year prior and passed as a new law already. Bloß Ein Traum?   - Letzte Woche schrieb ich über Reformen, die in der Regel am effektivsten bei Kindern starten. Dies bescherte mir einen wahrlich unglaublichen Energieschub, der infolge eine Epiphanie auslöste, an welcher ich euch nun gerne teilhaben lassen möchte. Ich habe ehrlich gesagt keine Ahnung, wo genau dieser Impuls entsprungen war, beziehungsweise weshalb dieser ausgerechnet meine Aufmerksamkeit forderte. Egal, ich war also darüber nicht bloß erstaunt, sondern genau genommen einigermaßen verzückt. Zu meiner Schande muss ich jedoch gestehen, dass ich bis dato meinen Wissensstand bezüglich des eigentlichen Wesens der fünf Weltreligionen keinesfalls verbessert habe. Unwissen schützt sicherlich nicht automatisch davor, möglicherweise Schaden anzurichten. Mit diesem Schluss bin ich über die Jahre hinweg allmählich mit mir selbst ins Reine gekommen. Just A Dream?   - Last week I posted about reforms that as a rule start the most efficiently with kids. This somehow left me with an incredible energy boost ultimately leading to an epiphany which I would like to share with you this time. No idea where exactly that impulse came from or why it grabbed mine of all people's attention. Anyway, I wasn't just startled but at the same time pretty elated, to say the least. To my shame, I have to admit though that I still haven't caught up knowledge wise on the exact being of the five major world religions Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism.  Not knowing certainly does not automatically protect one from possibly causing harm. This has become a major conclusion that I've come to terms with over the years. This being said, I'm fully aware of a multitude of potential traps concerning this hot topic and will therefore try to weigh my words carefully. Reformen Beginnen Bei Kindern   - Einen wunderschönen guten Tag! - Ein Gros der heutigen sozialen Fehlausrichtungen, Inkongruenzen und Nichtanpassungen schreit immer lauter nach drastischen Änderungen. Die Hauptfrage aber scheint die zu sein, an welchem Punkt, und vor allem, wie dieser längst überfällige Wandel zu vollziehen ist. Ein absoluter Paradigmenwechsel ist vonnöten, um diesem Problem wirksam zu begegnen, und es global gesehen nicht noch weiter um sich greift. Das Setzen eines so monumentalen Schrittes, um letztlich bestimmte verkrustete negative Sozialmuster umzukehren, bedingt wohl oder übel eine Revision der Erziehung unseres Nachwuchses, welcher immer noch flexibel genug ist, sich an Neuem und Frischem auszurichten. Unsere Kinder halten uns tatsächlich den Rückweg aus einer Vielzahl an Dilemmas offen und weisen als Lichtboten in eine wesentlich hellere Zukunft. Reforms Start With Kids   - Good morning to all of you! - A lot of nowadays' social misalignment, incongruity and misfitting is crying ever the louder for drastic change. The primary question though, appears to be, "Where and most of all how would we induce this long overdue change. We need a major shift of paradigms to solve that problem and to stop it from globally spreading any further. In order to take a step as paramount as to slowly reverse certain deeply encrusted negative social patterns, we will have to reconsider educating our off- spring while they are still flexible as far as teaching and adapting to new and fresh ways. Our kids are in fact the only way out of a multitude of dilemmas as the bearers of light into a much brighter future. We just need to teach them differently from what we've been used to.
