Einen schönen Nachmittag wünsche ich euch allen! Was sich vor etwa einem Monat zutrug, hat mich wahrhaftig jenseits aller Grenzen abgestossen und verdient es aus diesem Grunde, mit euch heute geteilt zu werden. Selbst- Justiz als neues Gesetz? Ende Februar spazierte ein junger schwarzer Amerikaner -ein Teenager von nur 17 Jahren - aus welchem Grund auch immer innerhalb einer abgeriegelten und überwachten Wohnanlage in Sanford, Florida, als er vom angeblichen Boss des hiesigen Nachbarschaftswachdiensts gesichtet, angehalten und zur Rede gestellt wurde. Es dauerte nicht allzu lange, und Trayvon Martin lag am Boden - seine Kaputze immer noch über den Kopf gezogen - erschossen von einem verrückten, selbstgerechten und omni- potenenten George Zimmerman, der kurz nach der unglaublichen und lächerlichen Bekanntgabe, aus purer Selbstverteidigung gehandelt zu haben, den Beweis dafür antrat, ganz und gar nicht im Besitz einer Wachdienstlizenz zu sein. At the end of February, a young black male -still in his teens- was for whatever reason wandering around within a gated community in Sanford, Florida around 7:30 pm as he was spotted, stopped and questioned about his whereabouts by an alleged neighbor watch crime captain. It didn't take long, and Trayvon Martin was lying on the ground with the hood still over his head - shot dead by a lunatic of a self- righteous and omni- potent George Zimmerman, who shortly after incredibly and ridiculously claiming having acted in self- defense proved to be in no possession of a security license at all. Einen wunderschönen guten Tag an alle! Das für diese Woche von mir gewählte Thema lautet: Krankenversicherung oder Russisches Roulette . Die ganzen Jahre über, die ich nun schon im Land der unbegrenzeten Möglichkeiten lebe, lastet dieser Sachverhalt schwer auf mir. Ich bin mir ziemlich gewiss, dass für viele Amerikaner überhaupt nichts dabei ist, und dafür Gottes Segen, denn offensichtlich kennt ihr Jungs hier ja nichts Besseres, beziehungsweise nichts Anderes und akzeptiert vielleicht deshalb die Situation so, wie sie nun mal ist. This topic has been weighing heavily on me as long as I have been here in the country of unlimited opportunities. I am fairly positive that to lots of Americans this is no big deal at all, and God bless you for that because you guys apparently don't know any better or rather any differently and therefore accept it the way it is. Alle westlichen Gesellschaften sperren ihre Kriminellen (hoffentlich) hinter Gitter, und mit Sicherheit funktionieren die meisten Haftanstalten nach ähnlichen Grundregeln - selbst in meinem kleinen Heimatland Österreich. However, here everything has to be considered from a larger point of view, of course, and as a matter of fact, US prisons and jails are bursting with too high a number of inmates due to the logical circumstance that we are talking about a population on a grander scale. Alright, but China's population exceeds this nation's census by almost a billion, and even India is over 1.2 billion making the US population of roughly 311, 6 million look like a dwarf. Ein verspätetes Hallo an euch alle da draußen! Wir kamen eben erst zurück von einem wunderschönen und sehr erinnerungswürdigen fünftägigen Aufenthalt in Chisasibi, einer Stadt des Cree- Indianer Stammes hoch im Norden der kanadischen Provinz Quebec. Aus diesem Grund hatte ich bis jetzt keine Möglichkeit, weiter an meinem Blog zu schreiben. Diese Woche möchte ich dem folgenden Thema widmen: Online Waffenerwerb ohne Erhebung des persönlichen Hintergrunds? Vor wenigen Wochen erhielt ich von einer Bekannten ein eher fragwürdiges E- Mail, in welchem es um das jedem US- Bürger zustehende Recht des Waffenbesitzes und - gebrauchs laut des -wie ich glaube-  zweiten verfassungsmäßigen Zusatzes ging. A belated Hello to all of you out there! We just came back from a gorgeous and highly memorable five- day trip to Chisasibi, the town of the clan of the Cree in the far north of Quebec/ Canada which is why I have not had a chance to resume my blog any sooner. This week I would like to concentrate on: No back- ground checks for online gun purchases? A few weeks ago someone I know sent me a rather questionable e- mail on every US citizen having the right to bear guns due to the Second Amendment, I believe. This right stems back to a quite tumultuous time with the British at war, so my husband. Okay, I thought, why not, after all this is part of the US history and explains this surprisingly excessive passion with firearms. About a fortnight ago or so, I learnt on TV that nothing appears to be easier than purchasing guns- even illegal ones over the Internet. You wonder why? Well, no back- ground checks are needed for that. Hallelujah! That TV station sent a team out staging that they nee
