Soul Versus Ego

Soul Versus Ego - Welcome back to my blog! - With the self- inflicted and abrupt end to another great human being's life, a most likely hyper sensitive and highly suppressed soul just released itself from that overwhelming state of agony it must have endured all its life. Who or rather what was that painful antagonist one may wonder? As I see it, the soul's greatest enabler or inhibitor can only be a person's ego. Many times I've read about the immortal and ever so inquisitive soul having to literally put up with and battle out its coexistence with the primarily hereditarily predisposed and socially, educationally as well as behaviorally influenced ego. A soul is said to enter a fetus around week 20 but keeps freely stepping in and out up to the age of 6. However, should the soul encounter too many unbridgeable discrepancies between its unique and ingenious signature and the still blank and yet inherently fairly set- in- stone nature of that person's self, it may at any time choose to pull out and give up its host whereupon the body dies or is inhabited by another soul (foreign possession). In most cases though, the soul doesn't feel the urge to part with the ego but rather stays and tries to get along with it. And this is where the actual journey begins. Various components are at work molding the self as we know. There's genetics, the key- player number one followed by the parental upbringing, educational, social and economic influences, all combined in the individual's environmental display. About a fourth falls onto what that human being is willing to make of that collage regardless of their origin and development. The soul on the other hand just pulls along more or less passively until consciously tended to and focused on - provided this step happens at all. Several external as well as hereditarily internal factors may easily promote or block this crucial step. These comprise constant stress, one- sidedness or rather exaggeratedly overactive areas in life, chemical or other diversions, addictive behaviors, lack of belief, self- loathing, mental abnormalities, etc. I strongly believe that we are all supposed to find a fair and satisfying medium between our egos and souls, and this certainly implies dealing with our immortal spiritual core as well. This step leads to a life- long process which is generally rather time- consuming and requires a lot of inner tranquility. Looking around I can't help sensing thousands if not millions of either broken or inflated egos along with locked up and severely suppressed souls. If a soul is continuously predominated by the goals and desires of the self, it will start losing its spark and become dull. The worst of consequences, though may be that the soul simply forgets what it came back for in this lifetime ditching its original intentions and plans and eventually failing miserably. The soul is an autarchic entity of its own but still needs guidance. If it just idles along without being kissed awake, so to speak, it will suffer badly and eventually express its agony on the physical and/ or mental level. Once the scale tips to the mere advantage of the ego, those beings either silently and uselessly waste their lives away or they start going off the deep end and snap or they become severely depressed according to the principle, suppression leads to depression. Breaking that vicious circle takes a great deal of strength, courage, determination and honesty - something fewer and fewer of us apparently have the patience and the nerve for. Substance abuse at first sight seems to be the answer but does in fact NOT help alleviate the pain or fill the void inside us at all. Nor does suicide despite leaving us with the sweetest and yet most deceitful illusion of gaining the ability to set oneself free for once and all. No, actually quite the opposite is true. Unlike the body, the soul won't die ever because it is indestructible. All the personal agony will continue, no matter what. Rather naturally, the soul will wish to return and take on a life under similar but much more severe circumstances in order to overcome this major obstacle at last. Thus the more space we grant our souls to grow and shine, and the less unbridled we allow our egos to strive for material and power- related wealth, the more our lives will become balanced, purposeful and happy.
