Let's Sing The Blues Originally, it was not my intention to comment on the political situation in this country, but a remark from my husband the other day shook the core of my political indifference, and basically poked the sleeping lion. I will, however, try and stick to my guns still as far as showing unbiased tendencies, because plain and simple, I am neither a Democrat nor a Republican.
Coming from a country which is based on a multi- party democratic system, I have gradually morphed into an absolutely neutral - politically speaking. Well, back to what my husband said the other day. Besides, he is just as politically not involved as I am. Okay, a couple of days ago, we were driving around in our work van, and we noticed that nothing was really going on in terms of construction in our area. Then a friend called and complained that nobody including himself was working any longer. And afterwards my husband stated, "You know, what is interesting?
Since the Democrats took over, I have been working less and less." I looked at him in total surprise.
" You mean, the little man is losing work ... " - "The big guys though are profiting from that", he concluded. It took me a few seconds to reflect on the words still echoing in my mind. "You are absolutely right!" I was indeed startled. "I'm definitely getting fewer and fewer calls, and whenever I bid work, I won't get it unless I go lower than anybody else. This is causing a bid war and a downhill trickle," my hubby continued. This knocked the wind out of my sails for a good while. I kept listening to whatever else my husband needed to get off his chest. "During Reagan's presidency, I was covered in work just like anyone else here." - Wait! What was that? Reagan was a Republican, so does this mean that the 'Red' ones support Plumber Joe and Nurse Jane, whereas the 'Blue' Party rather focuses on entrepreneurs, companies, well, the big cheeses? Should it be like this, why on earth would any American want the foundation - carried by the little man and woman - to become rocky, prone to cracks and ultimately collapse? As I mentioned above, I don't care for either party, but I truly wonder why anyone would seriously favorize the Democrats over the Republicans if the Blue ones keep sawing at the base of a formerly notoriously successful and powerful nation such as the USA? Again, nothing specifically against either party. Actually, if those two could somehow - despite all their divergences and differences - fuse and become one strong party, I might like and even support it, as there are lots of ideologically good concepts on both sides - just not together.
I personally know too little about who has done what in this country throughout its history, and which party has left the better impression altogether. However, listening to the little (wo)man in the street, the blue- collar folks in particular, I feel, I can trust their opinions, and according to these, Republican seems to be the better- fitting glove over all. America is not geared like Europe, Asia, Africa or Australia, and if America prefers to stick to Capitalism, the way they've been doing it, then be it so. Why try and copy European Socialist ideas if Socialism is highly feared to be quickly turned into Communism here? This being said, no wonder that Mr.Obama is having such a hard time trying to establish what is taken for granted across major parts of Europe? My hat's off to him for all the tireless effort that he's put into improving the US- health- care system, but honestly his party has quite apparently not been doing enough for 85% of this country's population, otherwise unemployment would not be sky- rocketing right now. I think, the party that ultimately manages to re- enforce this nation's foundation, and backbone respectively by creating jobs primarily for the common "Plebs" or "Populus", the little man and woman this is, will be the worthy winner in the end and deserves to be fully and solely supported.
