Long Live The Holy Cash Cow   Hi everybody! - Yesterday I woke up to the news, and when I heard that it was Green Monday, I thought to myself, why not (environmentally) Green Monday as each and every day of the year seems to be running under different labels. However, I could not have been any further off here with my assumption. Green Monday is after Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday just another sales gimmick to lure customers into their huge web of endless and seemingly hugely priced- off temptations. Green Monday guarantees you free shipping and fastest delivery as if this was a really great incentive to get your crap shipped out for nothing and delivered as soon as possible. This sure sounds to me like another solid bridge to Convenience Ville, but generally speaking, Green Monday is nothing but another hidden chance for rip- offs on a large scale.
At first, the majority of products, items and articles were put an up to 800% inflated price- tag, and now they are seriously talking about great savings after bringing the prices down to where they originally were. People, wake up! This is the ueber scam! - Let me detour back to Black Friday and all the other weirdly named special shopping days. Why this day right after Thanksgiving was given the name Black Friday is quickly explained. There are two market dictated colors, red and black.
The implication of red is alarming, bad and altogether entirely non- desirable. Black, on the other hand, shows success, ascension if you will, and progress. Does this ring a bell after all? Let's get real here for a second. The day after humbly expressing our heartfelt thanks, we are led just like a gigantic herd of cattle to fulfill the world market gurus' prophecy of turning that Friday into a mega successful business day with the graph going up and the arrow promisingly pointing sky- high. The methods of leading us to the source though are more than just questionable. Lines of people in front of mega stores waiting patiently to be let in after many uselessly wasted hours before closed doors. Just incredible to watch what happens once the hungry crowd is finally unleashed! Guys ruthlessly trampling over and stomping across the ones in front, women screaming, scratching and elbowing their way into those meccas of consumption, and kids being left behind, pushed aside and separated from their mothers. Indeed a lovely and peaceful picture! So, they all came for what exactly? In fact, some single items are displayed reasonably priced, but that's just laughably marginal compared to the rest which is still not to be found in the bargain aisle. For God's sake, people get alive! - The next day was declared Small Business Saturday which I'm sure, started off as a perk- up day for small local businesses. Sounds to me like a lukewarm excuse directed towards small retail places as they simply can't hold a candle to the giant competitor Internet. Anyway, next came Cyber Monday which at least as far as its name honestly reflects the business intention behind it. Business certainly not as usual, but something one can and will inevitably get used to. Billions of dollars were anticipated through computerized purchases, and this expectation was easily met. Good for the economy, they say, as it surely needed a boost.
And now Green Monday, supposedly one of the main shipping days of the year in the US. Just to give you an idea of what numbers we are talking about here. One large domestic shipping company was thriving towards an increase from former 9 to 19 million deliveries just that day! Obviously enough, this is another quite clever market strategy, but still what has the attribute green got to do with any of that? - Cash is king, I have been told on numerous different occasions. Really, what is cashless then? Emperor? Especially in this tough economy not too many folks can still afford buying with cash.
Have credit cards become THE alternative, the dark horse, for real now? Not hard to tell, it's all about profit, no matter how recklessly and unscrupulously this goal is pursued. Where is this all leading us to, I wonder? Maybe to Crappy Tuesday, Zero Wednesday, Poor Thursday, Lost Friday because there will just be no more capital to play around with ... just thinking aloud. - On a brighter note, yesterday was Cookie Monday at our house. Enjoy!

Seelenpartner, Zwillingsseelen, ... Alles Aus Einer Einzigen Seele (II)

Seelenpartner, Zwillingsseelen, ... Jede ...
Buy small and local   Hi everybody! - Coming from a tiny country like Austria, one might assume that globalisation is just a phenomenon tailored for larger nations, but no, it has also been affecting us all across Europe. Globalisation itself is of complex nature, and even though I'm not planning to write about globalisation per se today, it somehow dictates our overall shopping behavior by bringing in more and more big box chain stores worldwide which sets the general trend for methodically and eventually putting local small family- run as well as individualists' shops out of business. In the 70ies I remember mom and dad taking us along to a wide range of stores from the baker to the butcher, the grocer's, the florist, the hard ware place, the electrician, the tobacco store, etc. What great memories our weekly trips to the market created for us. There we would hand- pick fresh fruit, produce, and other delicacies. Sometimes we would even get a piece of fruit or a carrot fo...
College or no college - That's the question    Now the time is here again for high school graduates to venture off to college and university. I still, to this day, remember being thrilled and overly excited to start as a fresh(wo)man in a new place where studying would go hand in glove with partying for the next few years. I love to see every one's kids swarm out and flock together in college districts and on student campus terrains. Most teenagers get accepted somewhere even though often at second or third choice sites, but they will all have to face one and the same question which is, at what price? Unless you are granted a scholarship, three years and plus of college education costs you an arm and a leg, and if you keep going for more profound specialization, you will be in debts up your neck by the time you have got your PhD. Then what? Go and spit out job applications like a ball machine hoping that someone is going to hire you - unless of course you were lucky eno...
