Hello back to my weekly blog. Today`s post is dealing with the two- edged media phenomenon called YouTube. I am well aware of the fact that this topic somewhat overlaps the one I was talking about two weeks ago, but nevertheless I consider it significant enough as to be discussed as well.
When YouTube came out, I remember thinking of it as the coolest and latest fab in terms of video distribution specifically the ones portraying musicians and artists worldwide. However, nowadays it is proving ever the more that the once best virtual video provider has turned into a viral Godzilla screaming for regulations and order as the majority of entries - by the way no longer restricted to musical videos alone but consisting of all kinds of tabloid remarks and sensational news- are not just crude confabulations and hair- splitting exaggerations but simply destructive and often harmful rumors which are doubtlessly powerful enough as to put someone over the edge or even go ballistic.
Some time ago my husband was looking up something on YouTube as he stumbled across a series of videos that claimed, staged and faked the allegation of Justin Bieber being gay. Seriously, what is wrong with people? Again my question, why on earth is there nobody to step in and pull this garbage off the net? Whoever claims fame to spreading this sort of character deforming rumors to be published is well advised to single out the foul fruit from the gross of funny, innovative and truly inspiring contributions. Or is this kind of trash talk considered to be the spice to the soup that makes everybody want to eat from it? Well in that case, no reason to be proud of the results since you prove that you are just as bad as those that you allow to cause all this incredible reputation wise damage.
Just don`t be surprised should you find yourselves on there some day as well because what comes around goes around.

Buy small and local   Hi everybody! - Coming from a tiny country like Austria, one might assume that globalisation is just a phenomenon tailored for larger nations, but no, it has also been affecting us all across Europe. Globalisation itself is of complex nature, and even though I'm not planning to write about globalisation per se today, it somehow dictates our overall shopping behavior by bringing in more and more big box chain stores worldwide which sets the general trend for methodically and eventually putting local small family- run as well as individualists' shops out of business. In the 70ies I remember mom and dad taking us along to a wide range of stores from the baker to the butcher, the grocer's, the florist, the hard ware place, the electrician, the tobacco store, etc. What great memories our weekly trips to the market created for us. There we would hand- pick fresh fruit, produce, and other delicacies. Sometimes we would even get a piece of fruit or a carrot fo...
College or no college - That's the question    Now the time is here again for high school graduates to venture off to college and university. I still, to this day, remember being thrilled and overly excited to start as a fresh(wo)man in a new place where studying would go hand in glove with partying for the next few years. I love to see every one's kids swarm out and flock together in college districts and on student campus terrains. Most teenagers get accepted somewhere even though often at second or third choice sites, but they will all have to face one and the same question which is, at what price? Unless you are granted a scholarship, three years and plus of college education costs you an arm and a leg, and if you keep going for more profound specialization, you will be in debts up your neck by the time you have got your PhD. Then what? Go and spit out job applications like a ball machine hoping that someone is going to hire you - unless of course you were lucky eno...

May I introduce myself ...

Hi, my name is Marion. I am originally from Austria, Europe and have been living here in New England for five and a half years ever since I got acquainted and subsequently wed to my sweet husband. I speak a few languages, and have always kept my ear on the ground as to what is going on around me politically, socially, economically, and most of all psychologically no matter where I am as I feel it is of magnificient importance to stay updated at least on the surface of major matters which simply make or break a country's society. Sure, I am not in the position whatsoever to bring changes upon this or that people, but I should at least be able to express my free opinion about what bothers the heck out of me and hopefully others too. The reason why I wanted to start blogging is that I simply do no longer want to just sit around idle and keep accepting and excusing certain occurrencs, events, trends, situations, developments, and facts because everybody ...
