Rural Exodus And Mass Migration (I)

Rural Exodus And Mass Migration (I) - In times of such tightly- knit medial coverage around the globe and multiple instant social platform communication avenues, the word consequently spreads accordingly fast. Therefore, it is only a matter of time for even the most remote of areas for one and complete continental regions for another to be briefed about life supposedly being so much better elsewhere. Fundamentally, there is nothing wrong with getting educated on whatever differences there may be regarding the social, economical, political, religious, cultural, etc. way of life abroad. However, I do believe the actual problem starts whenever a bunch of nations and ultimately entire continents even, which are generally considered well- off, fuel the concept of owning the one- fits- all type of solution to every single desolate, war- torn or just under- developed country whose citizens are adamant to abandon for the promised better good somewhere else. Various wealthy and highly advanced nations which seem to be rather undeterred in continuously pushing to sell that delusional notion have either not made their homework, or they are deliberately and most relentlessly trying to break the camel's back, for real. Stalemate, at best, I would like to describe the current atmosphere across large parts of Europe due to the unequivocally rebellious reaction on part of more than just a handful countries. All fed up after having been put on the spot like that realizing that the common plebs' wishes are simply ignored and ultimately recklessly turned down, more and more autonomous states within the so highly praised EU are rightfully feeling completely overrun by their legislative representatives and are by now up in arms with respect to the migration dilemma. It turns out that the European Union has tricked their members in quite underhanded and above all premeditated ways. Only logically, it will inevitably face its own doom sooner than later. Several - exits are looming at this point already, and there's basically nothing those big cheeses can do in order to avert their own shameful demise. - In the following, let's take a closer look at the various reasons as to why migration is bound to happen on an unprecedented mass scale within the next few decades. As a matter of fact, in many cases, ongoing climate changes shape the determination of entire peoples and tribes with regard to escaping their growing hostile life- circumstances, for good. Famine, for instance, is often the result of dried- out, depleted and infertile soils which not seldom turn into deserts. Migration is therefore required for the sake of pure survival. Floods, mudslides, tsunamis, forest fires, avalanches, earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, typhoons, and much more of that devastating kind are mainly set in place and furthermore triggered through our ruthless and profit- oriented interference with nature. The future certainly looks anything but positive since the frequency of such occurrences, commonly labelled as natural catastrophes, is clearly on the steep rise with all that constant environmental strain.  With an increasing degree of severity in consequences to be expected, more and more human beings will ultimately be forced out of their regions. To sum up briefly, natural disasters, failing crops, food- as well as water shortages, famines, erosion, deforestation and fast occurring desertification, all of which account for major long- term changes, often leave entire peoples no choice but to simply walk away from both their homes and their livelihood for once and all. I understand that migration is by no means a novelty or happens once in a blue moon but has recurred countless times throughout human history except that in lots of those impoverished areas of the world, the population has meanwhile tripled if not quadrupled. Quite apparently not pinned under the magnifying glass of general public interest, their insanely explosive growth - in all likelihood a means to primarily sustain their own survival due to the overall sky- rocketing immortality rate - we, the Westerners have preferred to just turn our heads and look away and so let things go out of hand. The main culprit in all of this, though, remains to be the Roman Catholic Church which up to this very day still keeps condemning both the distribution and the administration of contraceptives which would help to finally put an end to that process of involuntary overpopulation. Their dated and narrow- minded stance is one of incredible inconsideration! It has led to many different issues and is actually contributing to the worldwide crisis of migration presently at hand. - More next week.

College or no college - That's the question    Now the time is here again for high school graduates to venture off to college and university. I still, to this day, remember being thrilled and overly excited to start as a fresh(wo)man in a new place where studying would go hand in glove with partying for the next few years. I love to see every one's kids swarm out and flock together in college districts and on student campus terrains. Most teenagers get accepted somewhere even though often at second or third choice sites, but they will all have to face one and the same question which is, at what price? Unless you are granted a scholarship, three years and plus of college education costs you an arm and a leg, and if you keep going for more profound specialization, you will be in debts up your neck by the time you have got your PhD. Then what? Go and spit out job applications like a ball machine hoping that someone is going to hire you - unless of course you were lucky eno...
Buy small and local   Hi everybody! - Coming from a tiny country like Austria, one might assume that globalisation is just a phenomenon tailored for larger nations, but no, it has also been affecting us all across Europe. Globalisation itself is of complex nature, and even though I'm not planning to write about globalisation per se today, it somehow dictates our overall shopping behavior by bringing in more and more big box chain stores worldwide which sets the general trend for methodically and eventually putting local small family- run as well as individualists' shops out of business. In the 70ies I remember mom and dad taking us along to a wide range of stores from the baker to the butcher, the grocer's, the florist, the hard ware place, the electrician, the tobacco store, etc. What great memories our weekly trips to the market created for us. There we would hand- pick fresh fruit, produce, and other delicacies. Sometimes we would even get a piece of fruit or a carrot fo...
