There's Life In The Old Dog(s) Yet

There's Life In The Old Dog(s) Yet - Holy Smoke, what a run so far with regard to the 2016 pre- election race! Never in a million years would I have envisioned myself glued to the TV, press and other (social) media platforms just for the pure joy of politics! And quite frankly, I would never have anticipated to end up so utterly indecisive and split either. Alright, so we are only a few more weeks away from either party's convention, but to be honest, neither group looks fit, ready, or God forbid, happily united, let alone project content consent. I truly wonder if anything like this has ever occurred before in the history of US elections? I can't really see this as an ever given fact but would much rather call the entire process spectacularly unique and completely off the charts at best. Not only are both parties represented by two complete outsiders, excluding Clinton for a second who is known to have mathematically speaking clinched the nomination for the Democrats already, but their newly forged ideologies are apparently clearly favored over the commonly applied and longtime executed ones by millions of young, and first- time voters respectively. However, what has turned out even more strikingly differently this time around, despite standing at the absolute opposite ends of the political spectrum both Trump and Sanders openly reject the overall predominant Establishment BS which has been setting the tone and pace forever. - Here is a summary of what has happened so far, and where the three remaining candidates are standing as of now. Donald J. Trump battled and conquered 16 opponents among his own party which was in itself a bombastic first- timer, too, I guess! Rather interestingly though, not until the combatants kept dropping out one by one, did the Republicans' attention actually start zooming in on the billionaire from NYC who quite evidently had not been taken seriously at all in the beginning. How strange, the party's internal attacks suddenly took on a pretty menacing and destructive viciousness which utterly failed to stop that "joke of a presidential runner" as he was generally derogatorily referred to, but rather contrarily backfired and lastly exploded in their own two- faced visages. All the ghastly talk about Trump never ever going to reach the 1237- delegate mark successively turned to ashes, the further on their nemesis gathered strength and momentum in his personal mission to just incinerate everything in his way. The famous business tycoon may indeed be anything but a neatly moldable and presentable puppet- on- a string statesman with polished manners and good rhetorics, but one thing for sure, he has got my respect for staying on in the race and withstanding his own party's maliciousness! So now that he has not only earned the required count of delegate votes but considerably exceeded that magic number, mind you without anybody's help and despite all those hurdles thrown in front of his feet, the RNC is still not on the same page with their top candidate. Go figure! Just unfathomable, but those arrogant snots are in fact unwaveringly putting effort into changing the outcome even at that late point in the race! Alone the statistically proven fact that Trump has been mobilizing a significantly increased crowd certainly not by several thousands but clearly by millions should definitely shut them all up and put them into the humble and thankful mode for a change! - Okay, now let's take a glance at the Democrats' side which appears to be just as much in uproar even though much more superficially subdued. Clinton is the clear presumptive nominee as far as delegates. No big deal, though considering she has not yet regained the degree of trustworthiness and likability required to run for president. This, of course, is just once more the consequence of some of her past actions such as her latest e- mail scandal or her questionable conduct as Secretary of State concerning Benghazi, just to name two examples. Besides, there's this (dynamite) book publishing looming rather peskily and other matters that are expected to surface during the next few months. Sanders, on the other hand, deserves my utter respect and admiration for he has been fighting an incomparable uphill battle against Clinton's countless financial supporters representing nothing but the Establishment per se. Just like David, he has been campaigning Goliath with the heart of a lion and the mind of a saint.
I just cannot believe that he was recently ordered into the White House where he was explicitly "asked" to finally drop out of the race so Clinton could finally and solely focus on her true opponent Trump. My hat is off to Mr. Sanders for saying NO and basically politely indicating, "Stick it, Mr. President". I truly love this old man for his courage and perseverance! Just keep it rolling, Bernie Sanders! Your supporters are still counting on you! Miracles do happen, you just have got to believe in them!

College or no college - That's the question    Now the time is here again for high school graduates to venture off to college and university. I still, to this day, remember being thrilled and overly excited to start as a fresh(wo)man in a new place where studying would go hand in glove with partying for the next few years. I love to see every one's kids swarm out and flock together in college districts and on student campus terrains. Most teenagers get accepted somewhere even though often at second or third choice sites, but they will all have to face one and the same question which is, at what price? Unless you are granted a scholarship, three years and plus of college education costs you an arm and a leg, and if you keep going for more profound specialization, you will be in debts up your neck by the time you have got your PhD. Then what? Go and spit out job applications like a ball machine hoping that someone is going to hire you - unless of course you were lucky eno...
Buy small and local   Hi everybody! - Coming from a tiny country like Austria, one might assume that globalisation is just a phenomenon tailored for larger nations, but no, it has also been affecting us all across Europe. Globalisation itself is of complex nature, and even though I'm not planning to write about globalisation per se today, it somehow dictates our overall shopping behavior by bringing in more and more big box chain stores worldwide which sets the general trend for methodically and eventually putting local small family- run as well as individualists' shops out of business. In the 70ies I remember mom and dad taking us along to a wide range of stores from the baker to the butcher, the grocer's, the florist, the hard ware place, the electrician, the tobacco store, etc. What great memories our weekly trips to the market created for us. There we would hand- pick fresh fruit, produce, and other delicacies. Sometimes we would even get a piece of fruit or a carrot fo...

The Luxury Of Health Care

The Luxury Of Health Care   - HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! - Oh my God! Just yesterday I stumbled across a post on Facebook which I feel I have to share with you today. A 20 year- old Californian suffered from appendicitis a couple of months ago. He would have had to pay a staggering $55.000 for his short hospital stay had he not been on his dad's insurance. Lucky him, right? Instead he was presented with a bill of merely $11.000! Excuse me, but something has got to be wrong here! When I looked through the list of services and costs, I almost fainted. According to that bill, Room and Board came to a hefty $4.878.00, Pharmacy racked up an impressive $2.420.00, and the price tag for the Laboratory read $1.408.00. Two hours or rather 120 minutes at the Recovery Room resulted in a mind- blowing $7.501.00 which is roughly $62.51 per minute. REALLY? What's more, Medical Surgery Supplies and Devices as stated cost another incredible $6.428.75. GULP! The CT scan was no surprise at $6.983....
